What is Hauptwerk?
In other words, Hauptwerk is a MIDI organ. It is a type of software that allows you to play different organs, all on one organ.
In addition to being software, it also comes with hardware. With Hauptwerk, you choose a digital organ from Mixtuur. Therefore, it will always be equipped with Hauptwerk software and hardware. At Mixtuur, we work with various Hauptwerk hardware packages that are built into your organ. These include speakers, keys, and the sound card. All of this falls under the hardware of a Hauptwerk organ.
How does Hauptwerk software work?
If you choose to install Hauptwerk, you are of course also choosing the Hauptwerk software. Hauptwerk itself is the program that loads the corresponding sample sets.
You can even choose from hundreds of sample sets. Then, a signal is sent via your MIDI organ when a certain key is pressed. The computer in the organ sees this signal and links it to the correct sound, which is then sent to the sound card. This card then sends it to the speaker. This is basically how Hauptwerk works. You can also adjust the tuning or pitch yourself without having to tune each pipe individually. With every Hauptwerk organ, it is possible to load different sample sets of recordings of famous organs. You can easily record your own recordings in CD quality or MIDI file. This way, you can listen to it yourself or share it with others.

Anyone could choose to install Hauptwerk. It is a fairly accessible software. The technology ensures that you do not need computer knowledge to enjoy your favorite organs. You can choose a Hauptwerk console with digital functions, but also a simpler version with Mixtuur technology. It’s just what you prefer.
